Katie delivered at 5 pm yesterday. Lovely Emma Grace weighed 5 pounds and 15 ounces and was 19.5" long. Mom, Dad, Baby and Grandparents are all doing fine. I'll post a picture as soon I receive one.

Happy Birthday To Me

It's late, but I want to post some pictures taken on my birthday. Tom planned to give me a surprise party but decided he'd better tell me about it the day before. I'm glad he did - to begin with, I don't much like surprises and my house was in no condition to have guests.

Kevin, Mike, Jeannette, Jarrod, Benjamin, Audrey, Greg, Jack, my neighbors, Joe & Shirley Lockwood and our friend, Duane Foist were all here.

The kids were so much fun that I forgot to take any pictures of the adults. Sorry!

Erin is due to leave on a trip to Israel with her church on September 1st. This is another trip that I can hardly wait to hear about and see the pictures. I have to travel to foreign countries through my nieces because I would be too scared to go on my own.

As you all probably know, Elizabeth is in South America. If I understood correctly, she and her roommate flew into Lima, Peru on August 10th and after several days there traveled on to Bolivia on Saturday, August 19th. The trip from Peru was a 7 hour bus trip, a 2 hour taxi ride, then a WALK across the border! But she said it was so beautiful and peaceful, she didn’t mind. They were to stay in Bolivia for maybe 10 days or so, then on to Argentina. I got this info from LaDonna not long after Liz left. I can't wait to see her pictures and hear all about it when she gets home, which should be around the 10th of September.

Katie is expecting and we had so much fun planning and shopping for her baby shower. Check back often because we are expecting little Emma Grace to maker her appearance any day now.

Rebecca & Kevin have a new dog!

In late May, Rebecca and Kevin got a new dog. He was named Luca, after a character in The Godfather (Rebecca was watching the movie at the time). He is a beautiful long haired German Shepherd. Just a few weeks after Luca's adoption, Rebecca was walking him when he spied a seal perched on a rock. In order to inspect this creature a little more closely, he cut in front and tripped Rebecca with his leash. Luca was fine but a spiral break in Rebecca's foot kept her on crutches for the next six weeks.

Both Rebecca and Kevin still miss Kabo terribly but Luca is quickly earning his place in their hearts.

Gracie Mayer passed away in February. Her death was unexpected - she was found one morning laying under a tree in the yard.

Kevin has been paroled!

Kevin was released from the hospital yesterday. I want to thank everyone for their prayers and help. Special thanks to Jarrod, who managed to get to the hospital BEFORE surgery and to Mike and Elizabeth for being there when he came out of recovery. Prayers came from as far away as Arizona. Mamaw and Aunt Margie prayed for him through surgery.
Kevin seems to be doing well and will be at my house in Mooresville for a couple of days. He seems to be doing fine but is still a bit weak. The Doc says that he cannot lift more than 15 pounds for the first three weeks but other than that, he is quickly returning to normal.

Many of you know that Rebecca lost her long-time canine friend, Kabo, this year. Kabo was a kind, gentle dog and was even loved by family members who were not really 'dog' people. Rebecca was kind enough to send me a few pictures so I can add Kabo to my family scrapbook.

Abbi and Ozzi visited Jamie today. Jamie is their groomer and just the sweetest person. Her shop is called Central Bark. Cute, huh?

I took their pictures quick before they get back to looking like normal dogs.

Poor Little Birdie

This poor little bird flew into one of our kitchen windows today. It knocked him out and he laid there for so long that I thought he was dying. When he finally sat up, I decided that we needed to rescue him before some animal came along and had him for lunch. I got a shoe box and turned to ask Tom to go get him. When I turned back around he was gone. He must have flown away. I am glad, I felt so bad for the poor little thing. This picture is not too good because I took it through the window. I wonder what kind of bird this is.
